The University Police Department at San Diego State University is seeking a seasoned law enforcement professional to join our team as a Special Events Police Officer. Key Responsibilities- Protect students, faculty, staff, and visitors from accidents, bodily harm, fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry
- Enforce laws and traffic/parking regulations, apprehend violators, and provide general information and assistance to the public
- Assist in investigations, patrol campus buildings and grounds, and control crowds during events or disturbances
- Guard property, investigate and prepare reports on accidents, property damage, fires, law violations, thefts, and disturbances of the peace
- Gather evidence, make arrests, and appear in court as required
- Current or retired peace officer with a California law enforcement agency, or current Level 1 reserve police officer with a California law enforcement agency
- Must meet current employment standards of the Commission on Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) and have completed POST-approved Field Training program at home agency
- Active law enforcement officers must obtain authorization from their home agency Chief of Police/Sheriff to work on a per diem/hourly basis for San Diego State University
- Reserve police officers must provide proof of completion of Level 1 Reserve Peace Officer POST Regular Basic Course (Reserve Police Officers Only)
- Candidates must have attained permanency at their current or prior agency
- Valid California driver's license
The starting salary for this position is not expected to exceed $75.00 per hour. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
Supplemental InformationThe person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
