Job Description:

This role is responsible for delivering technical solutions for the pre-sale stage of ESS projects, including technical proposal, preliminary design, value engineering, documentation management, and compliance assurance. The successful candidate will provide technical support to the execution phase of the project, such as system commissioning & testing, ECOs and RCAs.

The candidate will work closely with the US essential team and HQ engineering resources to develop new ESS projects opportunities and provide technical support that responds to customer needs and provides competitive and innovative ESS solutions.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Analysis of ESS project RFP, specification, and customer requests to determine all technical delivery requirements.
  • Collaboration with sales and engineering teams to generate technical proposals and provide overall technical solutions to customers.
  • Support of project engineering during the project execution phase, including BOS design, supporting 3rd party engineering study, EPC system level design, etc.
  • Technical liaison for the Sales team, customers, and other essential teams to assure internal alignment.
  • Performance as a technical expert for general ESS product application, specification, and technical inquiries, and development of technical specs and drawings as needed.
  • Management of internal and external technical portals to better facilitate internal and customer needs.
  • Support in the contract review process to assurance technical risks are captured and addressed.
  • Work closely with HQ solution center and product team to manage product updates and technical changes.
  • Travel with sales to provide technical support and demonstrate product technical advantages.
  • Interpretation of UL, IEEE, IEC, NEC, North American grid code requirements and other regulatory requirements and provision of input to the company's product line.
  • Attendance at industry trade shows and marketing events to support the improvement and expansion of the company's brand recognition.

Requirements for this role include:

  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in the renewable industry, with direct experience within BESS integrator or EPC contractor being a strong plus.
  • Minimum three (3) years' direct technical experience from any of the following roles: Product/System Engineering, Application Engineering, Project Engineering, or other similar.
  • Power Electronics/Battery Chemistry/Battery thermal management & fire protection system/Power System/Control System design experiences are desired.
  • Deep knowledge and direct experience in battery system configuration, installation, construction, design phase engineering, local jurisdiction requirement, project scheduling, system layout design, SLD, etc.
  • Thorough understanding and proficiency of local jurisdiction requirements, fire code UL9540/A, NFPA, NEC code, Electrical Safety Regulation, etc.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of ESS product and system technical requirement in different market sectors (CAISO, ERCOT, NYISO, etc).
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written across functions and all levels internally and externally.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or other drawing software to generate standard engineering drawing packages.
  • Proven track record of successful troubleshooting using problem-solving skills and common methods.
  • Good technical writing skills and ability to draft working instructions or Application Note.
  • Bilingual, English-Chinese and/or English-Spanish preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (preferably Electrical) or any technical or related business discipline is required; a master's degree is strongly preferred.
