Program Advocate, Overnight

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Program Advocate to join our team at South Middlesex Opportunity Council. As a key member of our shelter operations team, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our clients and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor shelter surroundings and respond promptly to any issues that arise during each shift.
- Maintain the safety and well-being of clients and staff, ensuring a secure environment at all times.
- Review previous shift information with other staff and review logs to stay informed.
- Document incidents and report problems to the Program Director through a written log.
- Attend regular staff meetings and participate in relevant trainings to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Treat each guest with dignity and respect, maintaining confidentiality and establishing appropriate boundaries.
- Conduct regular rounds to ensure the shelter is secure and clients are safe.
- Engage with clients, understanding and addressing their needs, whether within or outside the scope of work.
- Maintain confidentiality of client, employee, and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements.
- Ensure compliance with program, department, agency, and funder requirements, as well as SMOC policies and procedures.
- Minimum 2 years of sobriety
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of low-income individuals
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to respond in crisis situations
- Knowledge of substance abuse and mental illness preferred
- Basic computer skills to maintain trainings as assigned
This position requires direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. A successful background check is required.
