Job Title: Adaptive Physical Education TeacherJob Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Adaptive Physical Education Teacher to join our team at Rebecca School. As an Adaptive PE Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting the health and wellness, social, emotional, and academic growth of our students with neurodevelopmental delays.

Responsibilities
  • Provide adaptive physical education to each classroom twice per week, promoting physical activity and fun for our students.
  • Maintain equipment in the gym, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all.
  • Clean equipment and clear the gym for Greenspan set-up, demonstrating your attention to detail and commitment to our program.
  • Arrange swimming programs, accompany, and arrange staff for weekly swimming, showcasing your ability to plan and execute successful events.
  • Teach two health classes per week, promoting healthy habits and lifestyles for our students.
  • Supervise the outdoor segment of bussing three days per week, ensuring the safety and well-being of our students.
  • Plan and organize PE-related days and events, such as Jersey Day and Stairs Week, creating engaging and memorable experiences for our students.
  • Collaborate with the Community Resource Coordinator to arrange special events, demonstrating your ability to work effectively with colleagues.
  • Member of the Crisis Team, providing support and guidance in times of need.
  • Monitor and train staff and students on proper use of gym equipment, implementing modifications when necessary, and ensuring the safety of all.
  • Attend occupational, physical therapy, and education department meetings once per month, staying informed and engaged with our interdisciplinary team.
  • Participate in weekly teacher meetings, team meetings, Greenspan meetings, and supervision meetings, demonstrating your commitment to teamwork and communication.
  • Maintain professional competence by attending staff development programs and continuing education programs, staying up-to-date with best practices and industry developments.
  • Ensure the safety of students, prioritizing their well-being and creating a secure environment for learning and growth.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Adapted Physical Education or Physical Education, demonstrating your expertise and qualifications in the field.
  • NY State License in A.P.E. or P.E., ensuring you meet the necessary requirements for this role.
  • Experience with the DIRFloortime method, or a willingness to learn and adapt to our program's unique approach.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, enabling you to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with students, staff, and parents, fostering a positive and supportive environment.
