Role Summary:
Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is in search of a meticulous and energetic Assistant Manager of Event Operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful execution of both public and private events throughout the day and evening, overseeing everything from setup to cleanup. The Assistant Manager will maintain high standards for events and ensure a seamless experience for guests by managing event execution and acting as the primary Zoo representative for vendors, staff, and clients during events. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and reports directly to the Director of Events and Sales.
Key Responsibilities:
General Duties:
- Assist in the recruitment and supervision of event staff, including bartenders and event assistants.
- Coordinate schedules for event captains and assistants.
- Manage logistics for events, including ordering and inventory of supplies.
- Serve as the Zoo's liaison with vendors on the day of events, overseeing setup and troubleshooting to ensure smooth execution.
- Act as the main point of contact for clients during events, facilitating all needs as outlined in the Banquet Event Order (BEO).
- Support front gate security and event staff to ensure timely arrivals and high-quality service.
- Ensure a clean and orderly environment by inspecting facilities and equipment before and during events.
- Dismiss staff at the conclusion of events.
- Assist staff with teardown and ensure facilities are clean and ready for the next day.
- Oversee the return of rental equipment and assess venue conditions for future operations.
- Complete necessary forms and reports regarding client changes or incidents.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Experience in banquets, food and beverage service, or hospitality is essential.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
- Basic understanding of subordinate duties and tasks.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to changing priorities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals at all levels.
- Good judgment and decision-making skills.
- Extended hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required.
- Ability to walk long distances and assist in moving products within the Zoo.
- Work primarily in indoor event spaces, with outdoor responsibilities in various weather conditions.
- Physical requirements include standing, sitting, kneeling, bending, twisting, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
