Job Summary

The Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for providing fiscal and budgetary support, performing financial management and analysis, and ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct financial analyses and assessments to support decision-making regarding resource allocation
  • Participate in the annual budget development process and make recommendations for upcoming budget cycles
  • Work with the Chief Operating Officer to realign budgets and assist the research administration team with monitoring research accounts
  • Provide guidance and training to researchers and staff on financial policies, procedures, and systems
  • Process all financial transactions promptly and accurately, monitor spending, and maintain awareness of programmatic issues
  • Reconcile assigned indexes on a monthly basis and verify the accuracy of data
  • Track spending on research awards and pilot funds
  • Maintain current knowledge of state, university, and school policies and apply them accurately to all fiscal transactions
  • Produce accurate and timely reports for leadership
  • Serve as the fixed asset custodian and maintain records for the department
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience in a financial administrative role
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to analyze financial transactions for trends and variances
  • Strong problem-solving and time management skills, including ability to adapt to frequent changes in work assignments and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a large complex organization
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work with a wide range of individuals at varying administrative levels
  • Proficiency in the use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
