Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Overview:

This role is situated within the Kansas Department of Transportation, focusing on regional operations.

Key Responsibilities:

The Area Engineer will oversee professional administrative management and guidance across all aspects of construction, maintenance, financial, and personnel matters within a designated area.

This position serves as a representative of KDOT, engaging with municipalities, counties, and local stakeholders. The individual in this role will be responsible for providing effective leadership to their assigned team.

Responsibilities include leading by example, establishing priority outcomes, conducting quarterly performance evaluations, providing timely feedback, coaching and mentoring, managing disciplinary actions, and facilitating professional development opportunities for team members.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

Licensing & Certification:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Professional Engineering License

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering License recognized by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions and a minimum of six years of engineering experience, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity.

Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements:

  • A Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate is required in accordance with Executive Order. Each selected applicant (including non-residents) must apply for a Tax Clearance Certificate within 10 days of receiving the offer letter.
