Job Summary

The Primary School Recess Supervisor at Brookfield Academy is responsible for ensuring the safety, enjoyment, and well-being of students during recess periods. This part-time position requires a proactive, organized individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to create a positive and engaging environment for students.

Key Responsibilities

Actively monitor and supervise students during outdoor and indoor recess times, ensuring safe and respectful play and interactions.
Maintain a visible presence on the playground or play area at all times, intervening promptly to address inappropriate behavior or safety concerns.
Ensure that all playground equipment is used properly and remains in good working condition, inspecting equipment regularly and communicating with maintenance staff as needed.
Enforce school rules and expectations for behavior during recess, addressing minor infractions immediately and documenting significant incidents.
Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of recess supplies and equipment, tracking wear and tear and ordering replacements as necessary.
Communicate regularly with school staff, including the Division Head and classroom teachers, to provide updates on student behavior and disciplinary actions.

Requirements

Previous experience working with young children, preferably in a school setting or with supervision of large groups.
Strong understanding of safety guidelines for playground and outdoor activities.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to ensure effective coordination with teachers, parents, and administration.
Ability to enforce rules in a firm but fair manner while maintaining a supportive and encouraging environment for students.
Strong organizational skills to manage equipment inventory and daily recess logistics.
Patience, flexibility, and the ability to work well in high-energy environments.
