Job Summary:

The Correctional RN works collaboratively with healthcare professionals, correctional officers, and administrators to ensure the well-being of the incarcerated population. This role involves providing routine and emergency healthcare services in a correctional facility setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct health histories on newly-admitted inmates
  • Make referrals to staff physician, nurse practitioner, dentist, or mental health professional when necessary
  • Determine the need for emergency hospital care and ensure medication is administered according to standard operating procedures
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data from healthcare members and document actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses
  • Document patient's plan of care using identified nursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursing interventions
  • Monitor consistency between patient plan of care and actions of medical staff
  • Perform interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and hospital policies and patient care outcome standards
  • Revises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventions
  • Document patient's response to nursing and other interventions
Requirements:
  • Minimum of one year of correctional health care experience preferred
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
  • Proficiency in the English language is required
  • Computer proficiency required
