Licensed Practical Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at MEDIKO INC. As a correctional healthcare professional, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality medical care to our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate shift activities of facility nursing and support staff
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines, MEDIKO INC. and facility policies, and accepted nursing protocols and procedures
- Coordinate services with other patient care units/areas and provide nursing services and patient care as appropriate
- Monitor all off-site referrals and provide case management services
- Prepare, monitor and coordinate the daily patient care activities of the unit to ensure all physician orders are implemented and all patient encounters are documented
- Assess physical, psychological and social dimensions of patients within the health care units and, as necessary, in the housing units
- Apply knowledge of illnesses, injuries and diseases using available resources in obtaining a health history and in the assessment process
- Participate in the screening, evaluation, assessment and care of the patients in intake screening, sick call, clinics and including segregation units
- Provide a written assessment of patient on admission, during confinement and on discharge, as requested
- Provide medical treatment as per licensing authorization and state and federal regulations
- Provide prescribed treatment, to include medication, to patients, as medically required and as prescribed through Physician or Physician Extender
- Summarize assessment data and make a triage decision which is documented and communicated to other patient care providers
- Plan individual treatment programs in accordance with treatment protocols and processes, as established by MEDIKO INC. and the Medical Director
- Follow established referral process to appropriate health care providers, as necessary
- Administer medications, including IV therapy, in accordance with Physician or Physician Extender orders
- Provide various areas of medical care, as necessary or assigned, to include, but not be exclusive of intake/receiving screening, medical history, physicals, medical distribution and infirmary coverage
- Assist Physician and/or Physician Extender during examination and treatment; prepare equipment for such examination, as necessary
- Document medical history and treatment of patients in accordance with standard medical record procedures; document nursing encounters utilizing the Problem Oriented Medical Records (POMR) form of charting
- Assist the Physician in medical or minor surgical procedures, as necessary and/or requested
- Supervise and coordinate the work of Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses to ensure an efficient working environment
- Implement and monitor nutrition and therapeutic diet plan, as ordered by the Physician or Physician Extender using established therapeutic diet plan referral process
- Facilitate and participate in patient educational health programs
- Participate in continuing education and in-service training to maintain professional standards, capabilities and proficiencies
- Participate in the orientation and training of new employees
- Comply with all HIPAA rules and regulations regarding privacy of patient medical information
- Participate in cost containment goals, standards, and activities
- Coordinate multiple medical services for diagnosis and treatment of patients, as directed by the Physician
- Attend facility and corporate meetings, as required or requested
- Uphold all rules and regulations governing patient confidentiality
- Maintain working knowledge of emergency procedures in the event of emergency or crisis situations and assist as procedures warrant
- Adhere to security standards for medications, supplies and equipment
- Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
- Participate in CQI activities, if requested
- Follow time record procedures, as established by MEDIKO INC. and the correctional facility
- Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures
- Oversee quality assurance and infection control activities and compliance to operational standards
- Participate in program development and implementation of operating policy and procedure
- Communicate clearly, effectively and constructively with all MEDIKO INC. staff and all correctional facility contacts including detention staff and patients
- Assist other team members with their work, as necessary
- Promote quality assurance standards through thoroughness and completeness of tasks
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with patients, visitors, medical personnel and corrections staff
- Respect dignity and confidentiality of patient
- Promote good working relationships among staff and between other disciplines and departments
- Provide leadership to other staff, as warranted
- Promote excellence in patient care by challenging and, as necessary, correcting errors of peers to ensure the safety and well-being of the patient; identify existing and potential problems and take effective action
- Develop and maintain an awareness of needed improvements in patient care, procedures, equipment and supplies and make recommendations to supervisors
- Assist the presentation of in-service education as requested
- Participate in nursing activities in corrections which promote the growth and development of nursing and/or patient care
- Approach changes in a positive manner, motivate staff to work as a team, accept constructive criticism and learn from it
- Potentially have to supervise and delegate to Unlicensed Assisted Personnel such as CMA, RMA, Med Tech, or Certified Med Aide, per the State Board of Nursing and their scop of practice and any state requirements, where the RN and UAP are working together.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited registered nursing program; BSN degree preferred
- Active state/commonwealth registered nursing licensure
- Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved)
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in an acute care setting, emergency room or correctional setting
- Able to operate standard office equipment to include computer, copier, fax, and telephone, and standard medical facility equipment to include, but not limited to AED, EKG, blood pressure, oxygen, glucometer, pulse oximeter, and other medical equipment, as applicable
