Core Responsibilities

As a production associate at Smithfield, you will manage materials and utilize hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment to responsibly deliver quality food to consumers. This role involves physically demanding tasks that require excellent hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, physical strength, and endurance. Team members must be prepared to work scheduled hours, which may include mandatory overtime based on production needs.

Qualifications

To excel in this position, candidates must effectively perform each essential duty. The following requirements represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to fulfill essential functions.

Applicants should be willing and able to:

  • Comprehend and adhere to both oral and written instructions.
  • Engage in tasks requiring continuous and repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and extending arms.
  • Stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
  • Work in environments with animal byproducts.
  • Utilize a knife (if trained).
  • Operate in cold (approximately 20-40 degrees) and/or hot (over 100 degrees) conditions.
  • Function in a wet and humid environment.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes.
  • Work in a noisy setting while using PPE.
  • Handle sanitation and cleaning chemicals.
  • Adapt to strong odors.
  • Climb and navigate ladders, steps, and platforms.
  • Bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout the shift.
  • Walk long distances.
  • This role is physically demanding and may require the use of various body parts and muscle groups. Some positions may necessitate repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 lbs, single lifting of heavy items weighing up to 60 lbs, or lifting with mechanical assistance.
