Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced faculty member to join our team as an adjunct instructor in the Law Enforcement Training Academy. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a variety of undergraduate courses in law enforcement and criminal justice, as well as assisting with program logistics and student advising.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach a variety of undergraduate courses in law enforcement and criminal justice, including investigatory procedures, communications, human relations, and patrol procedures.
  • Assist with program logistics, including purchasing equipment, vehicle maintenance, and scheduling.
  • Provide student advising and assessment, including direct contact with students in scenario roles and assessment of incident-based scenario training.
  • Engage in scholarly and creative activities that enhance discipline expertise and improve learning, such as continuing certification, graduate coursework, and research.
  • Participate in service activities, including serving on campus and college-wide committees, representing the discipline on state and national levels, and participating in relevant projects.
Requirements
  • Credential to teach in this program, or eligibility to be credentialed.
  • A minimum of an Associate's degree with a minimum of 4,000 hours of verifiable work experience in law enforcement within the last 7 years, or a Bachelor's degree and 2,000 hours of verifiable work experience within the last 7 years.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree and 2,000 hours of verifiable work experience within the last 7 years, or a degree in Criminal Justice.
  • Minimum of one year full-time teaching/training experience, or the equivalent as an adjunct instructor.
  • Special Skills or Attributes: Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) certified or completion of P.O.S.T. certification within the first 6 months of employment required; P.O.S.T. supervisory experience in law enforcement and instructor certification in one or more of the three P.O.S.T. skill areas preferred.
Working Conditions

This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
