Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD) is seeking a Safety and Risk Management Supervisor. RWRD is recognized as a leading organization in the treatment and reclamation of over 62 million gallons of wastewater daily.

Possesses proficient knowledge of health, safety, and industrial hygiene principles, rules, and regulations (OSHA, ANSI, NEC, NFPA, etc.) as applied to Pima County government, employees, and the public;
Develops, implements, and oversees Pima County safety procedures and standards of performance that effectively protect the County's assets;
Assists Pima County departmental management and employees in implementing new or revised safety requirements as mandated by new or revised rules, regulations, or best practices;
Trains and educates all managers, supervisors, and employees in various occupational safety topics using innovative teaching methods;
Reviews existing company safety standards, policies, and procedures and makes necessary recommendations;
Investigates and prepares County responses to OSHA complaints, reporting serious Pima County accidents as required by ADOSH (Arizona Department of Occupational Safety and Health), and oversees representation of Pima County for formal OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) inspections and investigations;

Interfaces with regulatory authorities, staff, employees, and others concerned with occupational safety, including the City of Tucson, State of Arizona, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), ADOSH (Arizona Department of Occupational Safety and Health), etc.

Establishes and maintains liaison relationships with Pima County employees and management from various departments;
Supervises safety audits conducted by Safety staff and accident investigations for Pima County departments to determine root causes and potential loss prevention solutions;
Supervises, trains, and evaluates the performance of all assigned Pima County Safety staff.
(1) A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in industrial engineering or a closely-related field as defined by the department head AND four years of experience in managing a loss control program, including occupational safety and liability exposures.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

OR:
(2) Four years of experience as a Pima County Loss Prevention Officer or Pima County Safety Loss Prevention Officer, INCLUDING one year of lead/supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications :


Minimum three (3) years of industrial-level experience in safety, health, industrial hygiene, or environmental quality for a public utility, with the ability to train staff on safety courses, including OSHA and NFPA guidelines.

Minimum two (2) years of experience providing guidance and interpretations for a public utility relating to the application of federal, state, and local safety and health standards, programs, and regulations to ensure proper implementation and maintenance.

Minimum two (2) years of experience conducting incident response, investigations, and site inspections, with the ability to write safety procedures for a public utility, including the capacity to address technical safety and health inquiries.

Minimum five (5) years of effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, along with computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and other related programs.


Selection Procedure :


Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications.

The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Licenses and Certificates :
A valid driver license is required at the time of application. A valid AZ driver license is required at the time of appointment.

The successful applicant will undergo a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine suitability for operating county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures.

Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination.

Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services' review and approval of the candidate's driving record.

Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application or prior to completion of an initial or promotional probation period.
