Job Summary

Magna International is seeking a highly skilled Materials Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities related to the materials department, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily activities of the Materials department's Team Leaders, Sequencer/Tuggers, and Forklift Truck Drivers.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all inbound and outbound movement of material within the JIT manufacturing facility.
  • Assist the Materials Superintendent in determining and managing appropriate manpower requirements.
  • Manage material cycle counts and annual physical inventory reconciliation.
  • Participate in and lead process improvement projects: productivity, quality, ergonomics, etc.
  • Train new and transferred employees on their job duties and responsibilities, and cross-train as necessary.
  • Ensure employees are consistently adhering to standardized work processes and rotation schedules.
  • Ensure all Company policies, procedures, plant standards, and safety rules are consistently adhered to.
  • Collaborate with the Department Manager and Human Resources Manager in the administration of disciplinary action, when necessary.
  • Monitor, maintain, and record employees' time related to the Attendance and Time-Off Policies.
  • Provide timely feedback on work performance, including safety/housekeeping, quality/accuracy, quantity, attendance/punctuality, job knowledge, adaptability, initiative, teamwork/communication, and judgment/comprehension.
  • Ensure timely completion of performance reviews based on established schedules.
  • Track IB/OB shipments and communicate with 3PL/Transportation companies on shipment status/location.
  • Coordinate expedites of production material from suppliers as needed in support of established production requirements.
  • Track and coordinate returnable dunnage to all assigned suppliers.
  • Maintain scheduled delivery logs.
  • Complete daily Standardized Work Sheets and related weekly audits.
  • Support and enforce Company goals and objectives, and decisions and policies by taking ownership and communicating these in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Display a positive attitude towards safety, work safely, and follow all the Company's safety policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all Health, Safety, and Environmental standards in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Ensure all employees and visitors have a safe environment, with safety and housekeeping standards maintained, and all hazards, unsafe actions, or unsafe conditions identified, corrected, and/or eliminated.
  • Respond to and investigate all reports of injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses, and property damage immediately.
  • Take an active part in the division's safety program by performing regular workplace inspections, effectively investigating accidents/incidents promptly, and assisting in meeting or exceeding the division's safety goals.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Powered Industrial Truck Permit (requires a passing score on the Powered Industrial Truck training tests administered by LM Manufacturing).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of materials supervisory experience or a minimum of five (5) years of materials team leadership experience in a tier-one automotive manufacturing facility.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team-oriented, communicates well with others, and able to interact with people at all levels and departments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Detail-oriented and excellent documentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards and OSHA guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of Excel.
  • Proficient in MRP systems.
