Police Officer

The City of Pittsburg, CA is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, preventing and investigating crimes, and providing excellent customer service to the community.

• Patrol assigned areas by car, foot, motorcycle, or bicycle to maintain law and order and prevent crimes.
• Respond to emergency calls, conduct investigations, and gather evidence to solve crimes.
• Enforce traffic laws, control and direct traffic, and perform crowd control duties.
• Provide excellent customer service to the community, answer questions, and resolve complaints.
• Participate in training courses and programs to stay up-to-date with the latest law enforcement techniques and procedures.

• Must possess a Basic Certificate from P.O.S.T. or be enrolled in a California Police Officer Standards and Training Basic Academy.
• Education: A high school graduate, pass the General Education Development test, or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited or approved institution.
• Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
• Certification: Must possess a Basic Certificate from P.O.S.T. at the time of appointment to Police Officer.
• License: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license and proof of auto liability insurance is required.
• Background Investigation: Must be of good moral character, have not been convicted of a crime that could have resulted in state or federal imprisonment, and be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition that might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer.

The City of Pittsburg utilizes a merit-based selection system. Applications may be submitted online, and the selection process will include a review of qualifications, application appraisal rating of education, training, and experience, and relevance of background qualifications related to the target job. Applicants selected to move forward in the process may be asked to participate in a written examination, job-related exercise, physical test, or job simulation, phone interview, in-person or video interview(s), and/or web-based testing.
