Lead Senior Structural Design Engineer

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Senior Structural Design Engineer to join our team working on the New Glenn Second Stage Tanks project.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive the structural design and configuration of propellant tanks, internal structures, and interfaces.
  • Perform detailed design, analysis, development, and testing of primary and secondary structures directly exposed to cryogenic liquids.
  • Generate 3D models, detailed part drawings, assemblies, installations, and interface control documents to both internal and customer specifications.
  • Work across business units and functional organizations within Blue Origin to meet project deliverables.
  • Develop project summary presentations and memos for executive review, internal team meetings, and support to the Blue Origin communications team.
  • Maintain and routinely report performance to plan on schedule, resources, cost, and technical performance metrics.
  • Participate in subsystem test planning, execution, data reduction, and analysis.
  • Coach, mentor, and technically assist junior engineers.
  • Provide on-site manufacturing and production support, including travel when needed.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of a B.S. in an aerospace, mechanical, or systems engineering-related field, with 8+ years of related experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Program and technical leadership experience in an aerospace development environment with experience in full lifecycle development of aerospace systems, designing, deploying, and supporting one or more complete flight systems.
  • Highly organized leader with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated track record of resourcefulness, strong business and technical judgment, and bias for action from previous assignments.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and ability to travel in support of the program, customer, and supplier activities.
  • Ability to work with complex, minimally defined requirements and organizations while earning trust, maintaining positive and professional relationships, and contributing to a culture of inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong communication skills, with an ability to quickly build consensus among stakeholders.
  • Experience with rapid development techniques for hardware.
  • Experience with welding and forming processes.
  • Demonstrated expertise with any industry standard analysis codes: Ansys, Nastran, Optistruct, LS Dyna, Hypermesh, Hypersizer.
  • Demonstrated experience developing manufacturing processes for production.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes, and quality control.
  • Experience with Optimization and DOE methods as applied to design, analysis, and testing.
  • Experience working in a multi-functional team responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and developing the design to produce world-class engineered products.
