Emergency Medical Technician Per Diem Position

The Per-Diem EMT position is an at-will, hourly role with no guaranteed minimum hours per week. As an on-the-ambulance EMT, you will provide pre-hospital patient care in accordance with NJAC 8:40 and NJAC 8:40A. This position requires 48 hours of schedule availability per month.
Responsibilities- Report to work on time and be ready to respond to calls
- Check the ambulance and ensure readiness for emergency response
- Safely respond to emergency calls for assistance
- Ensure the safety of the scene prior to entering
- Determine the nature and extent of illness or injury and establish priority for required emergency care
- Rend emergency medical and/or trauma care
- Properly package and transfer patients to the ambulance
- Safely transport patients and crew to receiving facilities
- Provide verbal reports to receiving facility staff
- Record patient assessments and emergency medical care at the scene and in transit
- Collect medical insurance information from patients or receiving facilities
- Clean and restock the ambulance after each call
- Perform routine station maintenance according to schedule
- Maintain a daily log of duties performed
- Act professionally and use good judgment in carrying out job responsibilities
- Follow proper chain of command for conflict resolution
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or line officers
- High school graduate or GED
- At least 18 years of age
- Minimum 6 months experience as a certified EMT
- Previous experience with electronic patient care reporting systems, particularly EMS Charts
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to multitask
- General knowledge of EMS vehicles and associated equipment
- Certification by the State of New Jersey (or NJ Office of EMS [NJOEMS]-approved equivalent) as an Emergency Medical Technician
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license not under suspension or revocation
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification by a NJOEMS-approved accrediting agency
- Current NIMS/ICS 100 and 200
- Current NIMS IS-700 and I-800
- Current PHTLS or approved equivalent program
- HAZ-MAT Awareness
- Documented completion of Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO) - Ambulance, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) or approved equivalent program
- Awareness Level training in: Vehicle, Confined Space, and Rope Rescue (Preferred, not required)
Aptitudes required for work of this nature are good physical stamina, endurance, and body condition which would not be adversely affected by lifting, carrying, and balancing at times, patients in excess of 125 pounds (250, with assistance)
Additional Requirements- Able to work weekdays, weeknights, and weekends from 06:00 –18:00, 09:00-21:00, and 1800 – 0600 hours on a flexible or scheduled basis
- Must be able to read, speak, and write English sufficiently to perform duties
- Thorough knowledge of medical and trauma assessments, as well as appropriate BLS treatment protocols
- Ability to work effectively with supervisors, co-workers, other emergency service personnel, and hospital staff
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
