Pain Management Psychologist Opportunity

Kaiser Permanente is seeking a skilled Licensed Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary pain management team. As a key member of our comprehensive pain management program, you will work closely with interventional pain physicians, addiction medicine specialists, primary care physicians, physical therapists, and pain pharmacists to provide evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, case management, and psychotherapeutic interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate clinical treatment programs for patients with chronic and acute pain.
  • Assess and manage psychological issues for patients entering the chronic pain program, providing individual and group therapy sessions as needed.
  • Consult with other departments as necessary for co-management of care and participate in staff conferences to select, plan, and evaluate treatment programs.
  • Administer specialized therapeutic procedures, including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and meditation/relaxation techniques, biofeedback, and hypnosis.
  • Function as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, manage, and evaluate the medical treatment plan and communicate with providers.

Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited university or professional school, including didactic and clinical training in pain management, health psychology, and biological bases of behavior in clinical medicine.
  • Minimum one year of clinical internship with specialized training or experience in chronic pain medicine/management.
  • Minimum of sixteen hundred hours of formal post-doctoral training program in pain management in medical settings with anesthesiology, physical medicine, and/or surgical services, or an equivalent combination of training, supervision, and experience.
  • Knowledge of biofeedback and ability to perform/teach cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation techniques as it relates to pain management.
  • Knowledge of workers compensation system and short term disability system.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently without direct clinical supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
