Job Summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a highly skilled Patient Service Specialist to join our team. As a Patient Service Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility, and authorize necessary services.
  • Update patient demographic and insurance information, and collect and post co-payments and outstanding balances.
  • Address patient-care related telephone calls, and respond to emergency needs by contacting physicians or providers.
  • Schedule and coordinate patient visits, medical procedures, and communicate with patients regarding appointment information.
  • Notify providers, patients, and others of changes to scheduling, rescheduling, no-shows, emergency appointments, and add-ons.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1+ years of experience in customer service, including the ability to multi-task and resolve patient concerns in a timely manner.
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel 10% of the time to other locations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Beginner level of understanding of software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Soft Skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain good judgment and accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with healthcare providers.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
