Job Overview:

The Senior Industrial Engineering Specialist plays a pivotal role within the Distribution and Logistics Engineering team, focusing on customer implementations, large-scale initiatives, and technology integration. This position is responsible for designing and executing distribution warehouse and supply chain models for clients within the UPS network, utilizing cutting-edge technologies. The incumbent employs work measurement, methodologies, operations research, financial analysis, information system modeling, statistical evaluation, project management, and spatial layout in a distribution context to fulfill their responsibilities. This role also coordinates the efforts of other engineers, cross-functional teams, and clients to ensure that both internal and external expectations are met while achieving anticipated financial outcomes for UPS.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with Solutions and Business Development teams to identify data requirements for project scope and determine responsibilities, team members, and clients.
  • Suggests modifications to ensure solutions encompass an accurate scope of work.
  • Acts as a resource for departments in identifying operational challenges, resolutions, and continuous improvement for growth opportunities.
  • Analyzes optimization-modeling needs to ascertain necessary data for developing operational plans and distribution layouts.
  • Conducts cost-benefit analyses to ensure effective utilization of UPS resources and maximize return on investment.
  • Engages with cross-functional teams to assess project feasibility.
  • Creates functional design specifications to define process performance.
  • Performs gap analyses between proposed solutions and post-implementation operational results.
  • Serves as a liaison to UPS functional groups to coordinate key issues in fulfillment network strategies.
  • Resolves conflicts and clarifies communications with UPS stakeholders to maintain alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Provides support with project deliverables to ensure adherence to budget and timelines.
  • Assists in validating planned versus actual task completion to assess project impacts.
  • Utilizes work measurement, gap analysis, statistical assessment, discussions with management, and operational visits to identify issues affecting performance and service goals.
  • Develops solutions to operational challenges and offers recommendations for enhancements.
  • Participates in Business Review and Planning meetings, collaborating with the operations management team to implement solutions and conduct follow-up.
  • Works with the operations management team to implement operational changes aimed at achieving desired cost reductions and service improvements.
  • Audits and evaluates existing processes to identify areas for potential enhancements and operational efficiencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree).
  • Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Industrial Engineering or a related field - Preferred.
  • Understanding of Warehouse Management System (WMS) design and functionality - Required.
  • Identifies current and future needs of the customer or business; understands how business needs dictate project requirements, direction, objectives, and resource allocation; makes recommendations during the solutions-design phase of the project.
  • Specifies facts, research, and perspectives necessary for making projections; analyzes statistics and qualitative information within defined parameters; researches trends and conditions to inform projections.
  • Demonstrates understanding of implementation objectives, project plans, and individual roles within a project; participates in project implementation; provides timely, thorough, and concise updates for areas of responsibility; identifies risks and communicates them to the project manager.
  • Independently conducts standard analyses to identify problems in methods, processes, or workflows; interprets analysis results and recommends solutions to address identified requirements, problems, or inefficiencies.
  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of risk management fundamentals.
  • Leverages technological knowledge to achieve business objectives; resolves technological issues that impede work; adapts technological information, facts, or data to varying situations or groups and recommends changes to technological approaches based on knowledge of trends and best practices.
  • Identifies common problems with current work designs; specifies requirements for new work designs; modifies or adjusts existing work methods, processes, and flows to resolve operational failures.
  • Experience with operational efficiencies.
