Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to join our site reliability engineering (SRE) team in Chantilly, VA. As a Systems Engineer - Site Reliability Engineer, you will provide critical support to multiple cross-functional project teams, ensuring the reliability and performance of large, user-facing applications and services.

You will play a key role in monitoring applications, coordinating environment changes, and implementing technical and process improvements to enhance application resilience and performance.

Active security clearance with full scope polygraph required.

Responsibilities
  1. Monitor applications and coordinate environment changes to optimize system performance and reliability.
  2. Recommend technical and process improvements to application teams to enhance application resilience and performance.
  3. Provide tier 3 support to debug application and infrastructure issues, coordinating responses to incidents to ensure systems are restored promptly.
  4. Conduct root cause analysis and technical deep dives with project teams and platform engineering teams to prevent recurring issues.
  5. Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform to automate deployment and maintenance tasks.
  6. Utilize cloud-native tools to build and sustain applications in AWS cloud environments.
  7. Deploy and manage containerized applications using Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  8. Support applications written in Java, Python, JavaScript, or Ruby on Linux-based platforms.
  9. Manage relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and document databases (e.g., Elasticsearch, Solr), including managed services like AWS RDS or OpenSearch.
  10. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in an agile environment using Git-based workflows.
Requirements


Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, with 3+ years of experience for senior level, 8+ years for expert level, or 13+ years for subject matter expert level.

Proven experience with cloud-native tools and infrastructure as code (IaC), preferably using Terraform.

Hands-on experience with containerization technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python (preferred), Java, or JavaScript.

Experience managing relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and document databases (e.g., Elasticsearch, Solr).

Strong troubleshooting skills and experience providing tier 3 support for application and infrastructure issues.

Familiarity with Git and Agile methodologies for software development.

Active security clearance with full scope polygraph required.
