Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse at the University of Texas at Austin, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare team. Your primary responsibility will be to provide nursing interventions to assigned patients, ensuring that their medical plan of care is implemented and recorded accurately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing interventions to assigned patients, utilizing the nursing process to assess, implement, and record patients' response in the medical record.
  • Schedule patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via our online computer system or telephone, and reinforce physician instructions in person and through telephone contact.
  • Provide patient education and document patients' response in the medical record.
  • Ensure appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained for research and/or medical treatment.
  • Triage patient phone inquiries according to physician and/or departmental protocols and document actions in patients' medical records.
  • Provide after-hours clinical on-call coverage as assigned per protocol.
  • Provide working supervision and delegate tasks to licensed vocational nurses, non-licensed medical staff, or office support personnel.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation.
  • Participate in the recommendation of policy and/or procedural changes according to nursing expertise.
  • Prepare equipment and assist physicians during physical exams and medical procedures.
  • Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by physician.
  • Inspect equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Maintain adequate stock of supplies as required for work area.
  • Attend and participate in meetings related to clinical activities.

a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients;

b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants;

c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or

d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
