About the Position:

YAI is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our Community Habilitation team in Rockland/Orange County and surrounding areas.

As a Community Habilitation staff member, you will provide one-on-one support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, teaching essential life skills and promoting community integration.

The goal of this program is to empower the people we support to achieve greater independence and self-sufficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Utilize effective communication and time management skills.
  • Provide one-to-one support in community and home settings.
  • Complete mandatory trainings and apply skills.
  • Meet and demonstrate OPWDD Core Competencies.
  • Ensure health, wellness, and safety by managing crisis situations and providing supervision.
  • Transport and escort individuals on recreational activities, medical appointments, and home visits.
  • Build positive relationships and maintain a therapeutic environment.
  • Implement person-centered plans and complete documentation for compliance and billing.
  • Apply foundational teaching skills, including EMOE, task analysis, and essential skills.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED (not required).
  • Work or life experience in the intellectual/developmental disabilities field (a plus).
  • Ability to support individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Valid Driver's License (may be required depending on the position).
  • Tuberculosis test mandatory for most positions.

Compensation:

$18.31/hour.
