This role is essential for ensuring the safe and effective operation, installation, inspection, preventive maintenance, routine maintenance, and repair of various mechanical and electrical systems. This includes steam boilers, HVAC systems, refrigeration units, emergency generators, cogeneration systems, utility distribution networks, chilled water systems, building automation technologies, pneumatic tube systems, plumbing, medical gases, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, nurse call systems, and audiovisual equipment.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct repairs and preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems, including steam boilers, HVAC systems, refrigeration units, emergency generators, cogeneration systems, utility distribution networks, chilled water systems, hot water heating systems, building automation technologies, pneumatic tube systems, plumbing, medical gases, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, nurse call systems, and audiovisual equipment.
- Perform minor repairs on buildings, cabinet hardware, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical components.
- Possess knowledge of building sprinkler and fire alarm systems.
- Install new electrical and mechanical systems as required.
- Exhibit initiative and judgment in assessing the extent of repairs needed on all equipment and buildings, selecting appropriate materials, and employing the most effective methods and techniques to complete job assignments.
- Collaborate with the Facilities Manager and Supervisor, as well as other staff, to maintain equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Stay informed through literature, training seminars, on-the-job training, and other resources, and participate in approved training programs to enhance job knowledge.
- Document time, date, hours, and materials used on tasks, maintaining records on machinery and equipment through the TMA equipment/work order database.
- Adhere to accepted procedures in the care and use of tools and equipment.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
Preferred or Specialized
Education:
High school diploma preferred or equivalent. Education and experience may be combined to meet minimum qualifications.
Completion of a trade school course or apprenticeship program is desirable but not mandatory.
Experience:
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in industrial or commercial plant operations, or successful completion of the UnityPoint Health Facilities Apprenticeship program with demonstrated mastery of required competencies.
Experience in a hospital setting is desirable but not mandatory.
License(s)/Certification(s):
A valid driver's license is required when operating any vehicle for work-related purposes.
A First Class Engineer license must be obtained within the first six months of employment.
CHF Tech Certification is also required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Effective communication skills with individuals from diverse professional, educational, and lifestyle backgrounds are essential.
Other:
Utilization of standard equipment necessary to perform essential functions of the position.
