Role Overview

Working closely with the Visual Manager, the Display Artist is tasked with crafting an emotionally resonant atmosphere through innovative visual design. This role encompasses the conception, construction, and installation of both visual and structural displays that align with seasonal themes, enhancing the customer experience both indoors and outdoors.

To be eligible for this position, candidates must provide a portfolio or samples of their previous work.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Engagement
  • Collaborates with the leadership team to embody Terrain's core values: welcoming, inspiring, informing, and appreciating our customers.
  • Works alongside the visual team to develop an engaging visual narrative that resonates with customers and reflects contemporary home décor and gardening trends.
  • Enhances customer interaction through display initiatives on the sales floor; fosters community connections by supporting displays for workshops and events.
Leadership and Team Development
  • Guides the team by providing training on visual standards, operational protocols, and effective management of materials and tools.
  • Participates in store meetings, sharing creative insights, fresh ideas, and relevant visual information with the team.
  • Takes proactive steps with each project to enhance display expertise and elevate craftsmanship; aids in identifying and mentoring future display talent.
Visual and Operational Management
  • Engages in the display planning process by sharing inspiration, generating ideas, and sketching; prioritizes tasks and monitors timelines while adhering to budget constraints.
  • Implements seasonal guidance and inspiration from the Home Office to address the unique requirements of the store; establishes signage and fixtures that meet presentation standards.
  • Maintains plant life for all display areas, ensuring cleanliness and organization to guarantee safety for both customers and employees.
  • Boosts sales and profitability through impactful, product-focused designs; contributes to loss prevention efforts by ensuring all display merchandise is properly managed and accounted for.
Communication and Relationship Building
  • Fosters an inclusive workplace by actively listening and valuing diverse perspectives.
  • Establishes and nurtures productive relationships with team members, promoting a culture of effective communication and collaboration; remains open and responsive to feedback.
  • Maintains regular communication with leadership to ensure alignment on store objectives; demonstrates flexibility by adjusting priorities as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Passionate about the Terrain brand.
  • Artistic background with a keen interest in horticulture, woodworking, and container gardening.
  • Proficient in creating and installing both two-dimensional and three-dimensional displays.
  • Exhibits a high level of craftsmanship and possesses working knowledge of power tools.
  • Available for early morning shifts during weekdays.
