About the Job

The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a skilled Psychiatrist to join our team. As a Psychiatrist, you will provide psychiatric services and supervise mental healthcare providers within our organization. Your expertise will be essential in providing mental health and psychiatric care to our youth, ensuring they receive the best possible treatment and support.

Responsibilities
  • Provide psychiatric services, including diagnostic evaluations, medication management, and individual/group/family therapy, as appropriate.
  • Supervise mental healthcare providers and ensure they are providing high-quality care to our youth.
  • Work with interdisciplinary treatment team members to develop and implement treatment plans for assigned patients.
  • Identify the most appropriate plan of care and medication to address presenting problems and monitor medication regimens regularly.
  • Use feedback from staff and residents to determine the necessity for adjustments to treatment plans and work with treatment team members to effectively reduce the use of seclusion and restraint.
  • Assist with the Reentry process by ensuring residents are educated about their medication and treatment plan and provided with sufficient medication for a safe and smooth transition to the community and/or another placement.
  • Review labs and relevant consultation reports.
Requirements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current psychiatric practice and trends related to child and adolescent psychiatry.
  • Ability to provide psychiatric care to DJJ youth that meets community standards.
  • Ability to supervise and manage the clinical practice of physician extenders providing mental healthcare.
  • License from the Virginia State Board of Medicine.
  • Current DEA license with no restrictions.
  • Completion of an approved residency in general psychiatry and completion of a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
