Chief Intellectual Property Strategist

The Jackson Laboratory seeks a Chief Intellectual Property Strategist to spearhead the evaluation and commercialization of cutting-edge technologies and intellectual property.

As a Commercialization Leader, you will play a pivotal role in driving the growth of our organization through strategic licensing and technology transfer activities. Collaborating closely with the Vice President of JAX Mice Clinical and Research Services (JMCRS), JAX faculty, and staff, you'll develop innovative strategies to market and license intellectual property and new products for commercialization.

• Commercialization Leadership: Evaluate JAX technologies and intellectual property for commercial potential and licensing through technology transfer activities.
• Stakeholder Management: Work closely with legal teams (internal and external), PI, CFO, and JAX faculty to draft and oversee agreements, develop innovative strategies to market and license intellectual property and new products.
• Communication: Analyze commercial viability, outline value propositions, and elucidate the commercial impact to prospective licensing partners. Engage with biotech and pharmaceutical firms, investment groups, and senior leadership within JAX.
• Source and Evaluate: Identify prospective commercial partners for JAX's intellectual property assets, assess startup ventures, and investment opportunities aimed at advancing translational research.
• Execute Agreements: Collaborate with legal teams to draft term sheets for exclusive license agreements, sponsored research agreements, and collaborative agreements. Negotiate and execute agreements with patient foundations and biotech/pharma companies.
• Lead Negotiations: Spearhead negotiations for agreements with start-ups, patient foundations, and biotech/pharma companies to optimize the value of JAX's intellectual property.
• Intellectual Property Management: Prioritize JAX technology and intellectual property originating from the RDTC and faculty across diverse scientific domains for potential commercialization.
• People Leadership: Engage with, oversee, and coach junior business development and licensing professionals to adeptly navigate all aspects of technology transfer and licensing.
• External Outreach: Craft materials for the Corporate Development Office's representation at external events, conferences, corporate and government affairs, as well as for internal forums and scientific retreats.

• Seven years of experience in Academic (technology transfer) and/or commercial biotech/pharma sections (business development & licensing).
• Master's required, PhD preferred.
• Seasoned in intellectual property law and comprehension of biomedical research and technology transfer practices.
• Proven track record in successfully negotiating and executing complex deals concerning intellectual property assets.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with a PMP certificate considered advantageous.

The estimated salary for this position is $133,785 - $223,986 based on total years of related experience.
