Job Title: Campus Safety Officer (Temporary Employee Pool)

Primary Purpose: To ensure the safety and security of the University community while conducting foot patrols or utilizing a University vehicle.

Essential Functions: The successful candidate will be responsible for executing security inspections and engaging in crime deterrence measures, overseeing traffic and pedestrian movement on campus during various events and as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct regular patrols of the University grounds on foot or via a University vehicle.
  2. Provide assistance and guidance to event attendees and campus visitors.
  3. Notify law enforcement when violations of laws or University policies occur.
  4. Perform perimeter inspections to assess lighting, check for open doors and windows, and identify potential hazards.
  5. Compile reports as required and when necessary.
  6. Engage in community outreach and crime prevention initiatives.
  7. Participate in public relations efforts to foster positive police-community relations and enhance crime prevention.
  8. Carry out additional duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D).
  • Basic proficiency in computer operations within a Windows environment.
  • Effective communication skills via electronic mail, text messaging, and telephone.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Outstanding customer service abilities.
  • Proficient in interacting positively with the public while maintaining professionalism in all circumstances.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, capable of engaging with a diverse audience.
  • Ability to remain composed and flexible in high-pressure situations.
  • Capability to comprehend and relay information accurately and effectively.
  • Sound judgment and independence in prioritizing tasks and managing situations.
  • Familiarity with University policies and procedures, or the ability to learn them.
  • Commitment to confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Ability to operate a two-way radio for communication, even in stressful environments.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Willingness to familiarize oneself with the University of the Pacific campus.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative but not exhaustive of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Duties will be performed in an outdoor environment. The candidate must be able to transition from a relaxed state to a highly stressful situation with minimal deficiencies. Frequent use of phones and computers is required, along with standing, walking, stooping, and grasping. The role may involve moving objects weighing up to 150 lbs.

Work Environment: Schedule varies and may include evening and weekend hours. A valid driver's license is required, and the incumbent must comply with the University's fleet regulations to be eligible for driving duties.

Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience, non-exempt.
