We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Transportation Security Officer to join our team at the Transportation Security Administration. As a key member of our security team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of air travelers, airports, and aircraft.
Key Responsibilities- Operate various screening equipment and technology to identify and prevent the transportation of dangerous objects onto aircraft.
- Perform searches and screenings, which may include physical interaction with passengers, conducting bag searches, and lifting/carrying bags and property weighing up to 50lbs.
- Control terminal entry and exit points, ensuring the secure movement of people and goods.
- Interact with the public, providing directions and responding to inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
- Maintain focus and awareness in a stressful environment, identifying and responding to potential security threats.
- Engage in continuous development of critical thinking skills to mitigate security threats and apply risk-based security screening protocols.
- Retain and implement knowledge of all applicable Standard Operating Procedures, demonstrating responsible and dependable behavior.
- U.S. Citizenship or Nationality.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Selective Service registration.
- Pass a structured interview, drug screening, medical evaluation, and background investigation.
- Subject to post-employment random drug and/or alcohol testing.
- Available to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
- Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension).
- Mandatory travel for training and occasional travel may be required.
- Exposure to potentially lethal devices and dangerous chemicals is inherent in this position.
- Maintain physical agility to ensure ability to squat and bend.
- Ability to repeatedly lift and manipulate baggage, containers, weighing approximately 50 pounds and other objects subject to security processing.
- Ability to walk up to three (3) miles during a shift and stand for prolonged periods (up to 4 hours) of time.
