Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate patient appointments with UH specialists, programs, and diagnostic testing
  • Verify and input insurance, appointment, and patient information in a timely manner
  • Partner with clinical navigators to facilitate first-call resolution and patient navigation
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of computer systems, insurance regulations, and Care Connection policies
  • Provide good faith estimates for patients at the time of scheduling
  • Validate and capture primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance coverage for accurate billing
  • Communicate with patients about third-party coverage and liabilities, and collect, post, and balance co-pays, deductibles, and other patient payments
  • Recruit and advise patients to access their My UH Care Personal Health Record
  • Schedule appointments for post-inpatients being discharged from a UH facility and patients discharged from UH Emergency Departments
  • Reach out to non-UH providers for scheduling follow-up discharge appointments
  • Provide real-time support for team needs and escalations associated with patient navigation and incoming referrals
  • Enforce the use of approved tools and resources and adhere to standard operating procedures and protocols
  • Encourage critical thinking and solution-driven mentalities
  • Serve as a team advocate for system and process improvement, team engagement, and retention
  • Investigate and provide insight into process gaps and opportunities for streamlined workflows
  • Verify that all transactions are completed accurately and inclusively of all relevant referral details
Requirements
  • High school equivalent or GED required; associate's degree or progress towards degree preferred
  • 5+ years of professional healthcare experience or related healthcare position required; experience using Epic application preferred
  • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) required; related medical certification or take and pass within 9 months required
