Manual Machinist Job Description

At Timken, we're seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to join our team at the Princeton, WV site. As a Manual Machinist, you'll play a critical role in supporting our operations by operating machines such as manual lathes, mills, presses, key machines, surface grinders, and various hand tools to perform operations such as turning, boring, or facing metal work pieces according to specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate designated machines per verbal and written instructions, using work instructions, figures, and sketches to produce tooling, fixtures, and/or production parts as needed.
  • Continuously improve setup and operation of designated machine(s) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Read blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and measure sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Select and secure accuracy holding fixtures, jaws, cutting tools, inserts, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, and grinders.
  • Start and observe machine operation with caution to detect setup errors, malfunctions, or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Consult with supervisors, engineers, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Perform various assembly duties while following customer specifications.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when necessary to meet production demands.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years' machining experience in a manufacturing environment (industrial electric motor repair experience a plus).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Observe all safety procedures and policies and use PPE as required.
  • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Proficient use of calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators to measure tolerances as tight as.0005.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of experience.
  • Technical/vocational school certification or degree preferred.
