Position Overview: The Instructional Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing educational assistance through the supervision and guidance of students under the direction of licensed educators. This role involves collaborating with licensed teachers to plan and implement instructional programs for students who are not enrolled in specialized programs and performing routine clerical tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: Prior job-related experience, either paid or volunteer, with school-age children.
  • Education: Completed associates or higher degree, or completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 college quarter hours or more) or demonstrated knowledge through a formal state or local academic assessment.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance and First Aid/CPR certification.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of child development principles and instructional methodologies.
  • Proficient in operating standard office equipment and various computer applications.
  • Ability to perform basic clerical functions and arithmetic calculations.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Capability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Quickly learn instructional methods and materials.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience interacting with diverse age groups and cultural backgrounds.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Collaborate with licensed teachers to assess student needs and support curriculum.
  • Provide instructional support and tutoring in various group settings.
  • Maintain accurate records and assist in classroom management.
  • Encourage positive interpersonal relationships among students.
  • Ensure student safety by adhering to district management and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor classroom and playground activities to foster a safe learning environment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist in various school functions and support colleagues as needed.
  • Maintain classroom materials and student records.
  • Administer first aid and medical assistance as required.
  • Engage with parents and community personnel to evaluate student progress.
  • Participate in meetings to enhance skills and knowledge.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Effective communication in potentially noisy environments.
  • Manual dexterity for tasks such as keyboarding.
