We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare team.
Job SummaryThe Licensed Practical Nurse will function in the Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders Unit within SCI Nursing Service. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patient care, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities- Assist patients with daily activities
- Participate in patient treatment regimen, including administering medications under the supervision of a physician and registered nurse
- Take and monitor patient vital signs
- Collect specimen samples when needed
- Gather clinical data and obtaining medical history as required
- Perform routine immunizations, nebulizer treatments, and visual acuity testing, and administer and read TB tests
- Communicate patient's needs to and changes in patient behavior or health status to Nurses, Physicians, and family members
- Prepare and administer injections and/or enemas
- Maintain adequate inventory of examination room supplies and prepares exam rooms at the beginning and end of day and between each patient contact
- Answer phone and take messages
- Perform triage within scope of licensed practical nursing practice in an accurate and timely manner
- Facilitate and assist in the coordination of patient referrals and follow-up appointments
- Monitor catheters
- Prepare patients for transfers or discharge
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
- English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English
- Education: Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed by the applicant
- Licensure: Active, full, current and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), of the United States or the District of Columbia
- 3+ years of experience in acute care and/or long term care setting
- Experience with spinal cord injury patients
