Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to join our team at the City of Wenatchee, WA. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our wastewater treatment plant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain treatment and sludge processing equipment to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge, and effluent.
  • Perform process control, laboratory functions, and routine maintenance of the collection system to ensure process balance.
  • Inspect, adjust, operate, and maintain various equipment, including aerated chambers, mechanical bar screens, air blowers, pumps, clarifiers, and more.
  • Operate and maintain sewage pump stations, clean wet wells, basins, tanks, and clarifiers.
  • Obtain wastewater samples, perform routine laboratory analysis, and calculate unit and plant efficiencies to ensure compliance with NPDES permit testing requirements.
  • Work closely with plant, environmental, and engineering staff to ensure effective operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Document and maintain complete and concise operations logs and records, prepare process control reports, and present findings.
  • Monitor and maintain a safe and organized work environment, perform general clean-up tasks, and adhere to established safety procedures and utilize safety equipment as required.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three years of operational experience in a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Current WA Department of Ecology Group II Wastewater Operator Certificate.
  • Must obtain a WA CDL Class B Driver License with tanker endorsement/air brake restrictions removed within six months of hire and maintain throughout employment.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a plant and outdoor setting, in dirty environments in all weather conditions.
  • Exposed to raw sewage and toxic or unpleasant odors.
  • Occasional work is performed in high, precarious places.
  • Noise levels range from quiet to very loud requiring ear protection.
