Position Overview
The University of Minnesota is seeking a highly motivated individual for the role of Postdoctoral Associate focused on the development of innovative nanoparticle technologies aimed at enhancing the cryopreservation and rewarming processes of organs intended for transplantation.

About the Role
This position is part of a collaborative effort supported by multiple NIH grants and aligns with the objectives of the NSF Engineering Research Center. The primary aim is to advance scientific understanding and technological capabilities in the preservation and distribution of biological materials for medical and research purposes.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct advanced experimental and theoretical research, including data analysis (65%)
- Prepare presentations, publications, and grant proposals (20%)
- Mentor junior researchers and students (10%)
- Manage laboratory operations and organization (5%)

Specific Duties Include:
  • Leading the formulation of next-generation magnetic nanoparticles with enhanced stability and heating properties.
  • Investigating the interactions between cryoprotective agents and nanoparticle suspensions.
  • Assessing the biocompatibility and toxicity of cryoprotective solutions in various biological systems.
  • Participating in both ex vivo and in vivo studies related to tissue and organ preservation.
  • Developing standardized protocols for preparing stable, high-concentration cryoprotective solutions.
  • Providing guidance to technicians and students in executing experimental protocols.
  • Collaborating effectively within a large research team environment.
  • Contributing to high-impact publications and developing new grant proposals.

Qualifications
Required:
  • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in a laboratory setting with a focus on wet chemistry.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce quality publications as a first author.
  • Willingness to engage with biological systems, including cells and tissues.
  • Strong collaborative skills and team-oriented mindset.

Preferred:
  • Experience in nanoparticle functionalization for biomedical applications.
  • Familiarity with nanoparticle characterization techniques.
  • Knowledge of cryopreservation methods and biological assays.
  • Proven ability to mentor and direct junior researchers.
  • Track record of successful grant writing.
