Position Overview
:The Heavy Transport Operations Supervisor will oversee all Self-Propelled Motorized Transport (SPMT) activities and assist with rigging tasks on-site. This role includes managing task assignments, setting priorities, supervising craft operations, coordinating heavy transport logistics, and contributing to rigging strategies. The individual will monitor the performance of heavy transport equipment and ensure the development of heavy haul plans in collaboration with other discipline supervisors and craft leaders. Reporting to the Lead Crane & Rigging Superintendent, this position is responsible for supervising the off-loading and transportation of equipment, prefabricated structures, and heavy vessels to designated foundations or staging areas.
Key Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain a comprehensive SPMT Site Program. Interface with all stakeholders and coordinate daily SPMT operations. Lead safety initiatives, accident prevention, and environmental protection measures on the project. Provide support for field construction operations related to rigging and lifting. Prepare detailed reports and forecasts concerning SPMT, rigging, crane operations, and expenditures. Actively participate in scheduled safety meetings and site inspections. Supervise heavy transport and lifting activities throughout the project. Manage direct-hire SPMT operations and support crane operators and riggers. Oversee and coordinate heavy haul subcontractors on-site. Assess crane requirements and rigging equipment needs for the project. Prepare Field Material Requisitions as necessary. Monitor and support all rigging activities to ensure quality execution. Facilitate quarterly rigging inspections. Develop forecasts for SPMT operations. Conduct inspections for equipment on hire. Implement a Verification of Competency program for SPMT operations. Collaborate with other discipline supervisors and field engineers to ensure adherence to schedules and budgets. Coordinate activities with other disciplines as directed by the Project Field Superintendent. Ensure compliance with corporate and project policies regarding rigging operations. Conduct operator and rigger evaluations to identify training needs. Ensure that transport activities are meticulously planned and executed, including the off-loading of equipment and staging of SPMTs. Support the rigging engineering team in developing lift and heavy haul plans. Provide technical guidance to civil superintendents to ensure heavy haul routes are adequate for transport. Coordinate with other superintendents and subcontractors to establish access for transport vehicles. Identify engineering assistance needed for complex staging designs and engage in detailed design efforts. Monitor project transportation operations to ensure compliance with approved loading plans and procedures.Qualifications:
B.S. Degree in Engineering or a related field with 9+ years of experience in field supervision, construction, or design engineering; or 15+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.Essential Skills and Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of heavy transport operations. Expertise in rigging operations and crane usage. Understanding of heavy lift operations. Familiarity with Bechtel's Zero Accident Philosophy and related safety protocols. Proficient in computer applications relevant to project management. Demonstrated leadership capabilities in a collaborative environment. Commitment to Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) standards. Experience with modularization and module transport.
