Job Overview

The Patient Access Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth processing of patients through the revenue cycle. This includes verifying insurance benefits, obtaining signatures on required forms, and entering complete and accurate demographic information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA, and other hospital regulations
  • Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships with patients and families
  • Ensure patient safety by properly identifying and triaging patients
  • Answer telephone calls and communicate with medical staff
  • Obtain and verify insurance authorizations as required
  • Maximize collection efficiency and accuracy by pursuing collections at the time of service
  • Scan registration and clinical documentation into the system and maintain medical records
  • Assist with coordinating patient transfers and responding to medical record requests
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 1 year of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a healthcare setting, required; 2 years preferred
  • Knowledge of various insurance plans and payors, required
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and excellent customer service skills
