Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Public Works/Drainage Specialist. This role will be responsible for performing site inspections to ensure compliance with the City's Virginia Stormwater Management Program and federal, state, and local standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with stormwater management regulations
  • Work with department staff to develop and implement stormwater management plans
  • Collaborate with other city departments to ensure effective stormwater management practices
  • Provide training and education to city staff on stormwater management best practices
  • Develop and maintain records of stormwater management activities
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED
  • Minimum of one year of work experience in stormwater construction projects
  • Minimum of two years' experience in the construction, engineering, surveying, or related field
  • Considerable knowledge of local and state construction and environmental codes and regulations
  • Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Erosion and Sediment Control Certification
  • Certification from DEQ for Stormwater Inspector within one year of employment
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
Preferred Qualifications
  • Some vocational training or college-level courses in civil engineering, surveying, or related field
  • Training in riparian areas or construction of shoreline structures
Working Conditions

This position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions and may involve long hours and unusual schedules during city emergencies.
