Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Master Mechanic to join our team at LifeSpan. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for repairing and maintaining hospital equipment, machinery, and vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Repair and maintain hospital equipment, machinery, and vehicles
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on laundry machinery, automatic doors, wheelchairs, and other equipment
  • Fabricate and repair machinery and equipment parts using metalworking tools
  • Perform electronic repairs and troubleshoot control circuits on personnel/object sensors
  • Operate sheet metal shear and lathe, and perform other trade tasks as needed
  • Monitor physical plant and perform maintenance duties independently on evening, night, and weekend shifts
  • Maintain inventory of frequently used materials and equipment, and issue same to workers upon request
  • Prepare purchase orders for materials required to perform tasks
Requirements
  • Equivalent to completion of four years of high school plus 1-2 years of trade schooling with courses in welding, basic electricity, and mechanics
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, design parts to be fabricated, and investigate cause and resolve equipment malfunctioning
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard maintenance and metalworking tools, electronic diagnostic tools, and their proper use and care
  • Three years related experience in mechanical repair and general renovation and maintenance work
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Will work throughout the hospital, including patient rooms, treatment areas, common areas, labs, and rooftops. May work at off-site locations in equipment rooms and in restricted spaces. May be exposed to extreme cold or high heat conditions, dust, dirt, synthetic oils, cleaning materials, and aerosols.

Independent Action and Supervisory Responsibility

Duties are generally proceduralized, allowing the incumbent to perform independently with intermittent or little close supervision. Refers specific complex problems to the supervisor when clarification of the departmental policies and procedures are required. No supervisory responsibility.
