About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at DCH Health System. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality laboratory results for inpatient and outpatient customers.

Responsibilities
  • Perform various laboratory procedures, including waived, moderate, and high-complexity testing, while maintaining knowledge of age-specific laboratory needs.
  • Calibrate, standardize, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot instruments according to established procedures.
  • Ensure proper functioning of instruments, reagents, and procedures through quality control measures.
  • Document all tasks performed and adhere to infection control and safety practices.
  • Train and teach others as directed by laboratory management and participate in continuing education courses.
  • Inventorize and stock supplies, checking and inspecting them for proper storage and handling.
  • Respond to inquiries about test results, methodology, specificity, sensitivity, and interpretation.
Requirements
  • Board certification in Laboratory Science from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or the American Medical Technologists (AMT) is required.
  • Demonstrate abilities in assigned responsibilities through successful completion of annual laboratory competency testing.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Possess manual dexterity and fine motor skills, with the ability to stand, walk, and sit for long periods.
  • Lift a maximum of 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Vision and hearing must be normal or corrected to within normal limits, with normal color vision for tasks requiring color differentiation.
  • Frequent interaction with others in the Laboratory and other departments to resolve issues impacting patient care.
