Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Nurse Manager to join our Inpatient Behavioral Health team at Long Island Community Hospital. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining high standards of patient care, directing and facilitating the work performance of all personnel on a defined patient care area, and maximizing patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patient symptoms for various medical problems, determine if the patient should be seen by the physician or seek emergency care, and schedule emergency or same-day appointments as needed.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with physicians, NPs, PAs, MAs, and office staff to review charts and lab test results, monitor patient progress, recognize abnormalities, and take appropriate action.
  • Assess patient clinical status, evaluate and document patient response to current treatment plan, and collaboratively review and modify the plan as needed.
  • Administer IV medication as ordered, provide direct patient care, and maintain accurate records of care and observations.
  • Assist in scheduling tests and procedures as ordered by physicians, obtain prior authorizations as required, and initiate homecare referrals.
  • Practice, facilitate, and role-model the principles of team building, delegation, and communication to demonstrate effective leadership skills.
  • Participate in staff development and overall patient care, provide information and knowledge for departmental problem-solving, and assist with staff orientation.
Requirements
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) highly desired and required within 2 years of start date.
  • Current NYS Registered Nurse license.
  • Current NYS Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).
  • 1-2 years of related work experience.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with computers.
