Solano Community College is seeking a qualified Clinical Nursing Instructor to join our team. This is a part-time position that requires teaching clinical and/or lecture-discussion courses during the day, evening, or on weekends, and/or in an online/distance education format.
Key Responsibilities- Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations.
- Inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations.
- Meet administrative timelines and submit completed and required documents and reports.
- Maintain required student attendance and scholastic records.
- Participate in staff/division meetings.
- Keep student learning outcomes current and assess courses.
- Review curriculum and assess student learning.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Health Sciences and/or Director of Nursing.
- A current California Registered Nurse License.
- Master's Degree in Nursing OR Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and two years of experience; OR Associate Degree in Nursing and at least six years' experience.
- At least one (1) year continuous, full-time (or its equivalent) experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care within the last five (5) years in an acute or long-term care setting; OR teaching in an RN pre/post-licensure nursing program for a minimum of one (1) academic year in the last five (5) years.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider Certification for Healthcare Providers.
- Nursing skills, equipment, and technology used in the nursing area.
- Safety standards and practices used in hospital/lab settings.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
- Ability to keep abreast in the use and training of new instructional technology.
- Ability to provide quick think-on-your-feet problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced ever-changing work environment.
- Effectively using interpersonal and communications (written and oral) skills, including tact and diplomacy as well as working with diverse student and faculty populations.
- Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through.
- Remaining calm and logical, and following established procedures in emergency situations.
- Coordinating student activities and services.
- Providing assistance to students and instructors in a clinical / lab environment.
- Promoting and ensuring safe practices.
- Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships and work well in a diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic environment with faculty, students and staff who may have a wide range of abilities, including the disabled.
- Demonstrated proficiency in nursing practice.
- Exposure to hazards related to working in medical waste / sharps environment.
- Occasional lifting of objects up to 30 pounds.
- Potential for exposure to contaminated blood and / or body fluid.
- Subject to walking, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling and stooping.
