Job Overview

The Culinary Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Head Chef by engaging in food preparation, cooking, and maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen environment. This position is classified as Non-Exempt and includes a comprehensive benefits package. The Jewish Community Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the Head Chef in the preparation, cooking, serving, labeling, and storage of food items.
  • Handles dishwashing duties as required and ensures the kitchen remains clean and organized.
  • Follows established procedures for food quality and safe food handling practices.
  • Maintains an up-to-date Registered Food Manager's certificate.
  • Assists in staffing the kitchen during special events and observances.
  • Completes additional tasks as assigned by the Head Chef.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in food service or kitchen operations.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. and transport items while walking.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
  • Exhibits a positive and energetic demeanor.
  • Dependable team player with a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Willingness to accept guidance and direction.

The Culinary Assistant is expected to embody the values of the JCC and contribute positively to the team. Responsibilities may evolve based on the needs of the organization and the community.
