Position Overview

Role: Assistant Music Director

Reports to: Music Director

Location: Catholic Diocese Of Fort Worth

General Summary: The Assistant Music Director is responsible for managing the Hispanic and Children's music ministries within the parish, while providing essential support to the Music Director. This role includes leading rehearsals, conducting choirs, playing the piano, and assisting with various liturgical events. Bilingual candidates are preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and prepare the Hispanic Choir/Ensemble for Sunday Mass and special Holy Days.
  • Establish and nurture the Parish Children's Choir to perform at monthly liturgies, as well as during Christmas and Easter celebrations.
  • Accompany and direct multiple weekend liturgies.
  • Participate in monthly liturgical meetings.
  • Select appropriate music for both Hispanic liturgies and the Children's Choir.
  • Be available for ministry at weddings and funerals.
  • Complete additional tasks and projects as assigned.

Supervision:

  • Oversee Hispanic and Children's Choir volunteers during rehearsals and events.
  • Receive guidance from the Music Director.

Internal Communication:

  • Engage effectively with parish staff, volunteers, and parishioners in a friendly and welcoming manner.

Working Environment:

  • This position operates within a church setting and may experience stress due to tight deadlines during liturgical seasons. Remote work is not an option.
  • Must be capable of climbing stairs and lifting at least 25 pounds.
  • Ability to set up and operate sound equipment is required.
  • Evening and weekend availability is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in music or a related discipline.
  • One to three years of experience in conducting, choir management, instrumental accompaniment, or music education.
  • Proficiency in sight-reading music, piano performance, and conducting from the piano.

Desired Skills:

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing.
  • Understanding of Catholic Church practices, sacraments, and liturgical rites.
  • Familiarity with computers and office technology.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Capability to draft correspondence and announcements.
  • Commitment to confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and organize effectively.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly preferred.

FLSA Status: Exempt
