GENERAL SCOPE OF POSITION:
A Community Safety Officer adheres to a leadership framework that embodies value-based and community policing principles while addressing community needs. This role emphasizes collaborative, innovative, and adaptive leadership that is influenced by mutual respect and is non-coercive. The Community Safety Officer aims to foster a shared purpose among leaders, followers, and community members to achieve common objectives.
A Community Service Officer is tasked with overseeing parking regulations within campus facilities and is responsible for observing and reporting any suspicious activities or security concerns to the Public Safety Dispatch. Additionally, this role supports Public Safety Officers in managing participants during various events.
As part of the broader Student Life team, Public Safety personnel work in collaboration across various divisions and departments to cultivate a supportive university environment that promotes student learning and development in alignment with the Jesuit Catholic tradition. The mission of Student Life is to comprehensively support student growth within a framework of social justice, aimed at preparing students to become compassionate and socially responsible citizens in both local and global contexts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Issue parking citations on USF Campus Property.
- Ensure security at campus events including dances, athletic competitions, receptions, and special presentations.
- Monitor and report breaches of university policies, regulations, and relevant laws while performing assigned duties.
- Assist the Public Safety Systems team with the upkeep and support of campus emergency communication devices and departmental panic buttons.
- Provide front desk and building security at designated USF properties, ensuring that only authorized students, faculty, staff, building tenants, and visitors gain access.
- At the discretion of the Sergeant/OIC, assist with minor door access issues and lockouts.
- Foster positive, collaborative, and professional relationships within the university community.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Physical Requirements: Must possess adequate strength and agility to fulfill the responsibilities of a Community Service Officer, which may include traversing buildings, ascending stairs, and lifting heavy items.
Certifications: A valid California Driver's License, current Consumer Affairs Guard registration card, and Department of Justice Straight Baton Certification card are required. Red Cross Basic First-Aid and CPR Certification is preferred.
Selection Process:
This process consists of three components:
- Review of resume/application
- Interview with Director
- Reference check, which may include a review of character references and work history
Successful candidates may be offered part-time positions to assist as needed.
Employment Type: Full time
Compensation: Hourly
Salary Range: $27.30 per hour
