Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Child Advocacy Support Specialist will collaborate with the Clinical Services Director to provide essential assistance to young victims of maltreatment and their non-offending guardians. This role entails direct reporting to the Clinical Services Director and involves planning, executing, and assessing intervention and follow-up services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement the Child Advocacy Support program.
  • Maintain consistent communication and follow-up with families and children.
  • Educate non-offending guardians on how to support their child who has experienced abuse.
  • Deliver crisis intervention services to children and families as required.
  • Gather child well-being concerns and troubling symptoms from guardians during visits and provide necessary support services.
  • Offer appropriate intervention and assistance to families throughout the investigative, court preparation, treatment, and prosecution phases.
  • Provide education and support to parents and non-offending guardians during forensic interviews.
  • Assist therapists and case managers in collecting background information during intake assessments.
  • Discuss the Family Information Packet, secure signatures on confidentiality and permission forms, and clarify services provided.
  • Support CAC staff in maintaining accurate case tracking and recordkeeping.
  • Coordinate services with therapists and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Schedule referral appointments with community therapists and treatment providers, ensuring follow-up for families transitioning out of the program.
  • Conduct risk assessments and parent-child relationship evaluations with non-offending guardians.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development related to child advocacy.
  • Establish and maintain a resource library for use by non-offending guardians, child victims, and community partners.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversight of program volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related human services field, with experience in family support.
  • Ability to interact tactfully and professionally with the public, clients, and colleagues.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of child development and experience with families in trauma and crisis situations.
  • Understanding of parent-child attachment and relationships.
  • Experience providing services to diverse communities and cultural sensitivity.
  • Awareness of child abuse and neglect, particularly child sexual abuse.
  • Familiarity with intervention and treatment services for child abuse victims.
  • Experience in conducting public awareness and educational initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, basic computer skills, and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Strong organizational and writing skills; self-motivated and task-oriented.
  • Experience collaborating with community agencies.
