Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities may vary based on experience level:

Engineer-in-Training:

  • Act as an engineer in the planning, design, construction, and/or commissioning of water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects.
  • Conduct data entry and analysis.
  • Execute system modeling and hydraulic calculations to determine facility specifications.
  • Prepare cost estimates.
  • Facilitate permitting and alternatives analysis.
  • Draft technical memoranda, reports, plans, specifications, and other project deliverables.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including reviewing contractor submissions for compliance with contract documents and addressing contractor inquiries.
  • Engage in field activities, including site visits and overseeing field operations.
  • Travel may be necessary depending on project assignments, although most projects are local.

Professional Engineer to Senior Engineer additional responsibilities may include:

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Experience in delivering and managing water/wastewater infrastructure projects, with partial accountability for budget, schedule, contract obligations, and quality standards.
  • Ability to provide high-quality services within budgetary and scheduling constraints.
  • Assist in coordinating sub-consultant work.
  • May take on project management responsibilities for small to medium-sized projects.
  • Support project managers in planning, scheduling, coordinating, supervising, and reviewing the work of project teams, including various engineering disciplines and technical experts.
  • Help project managers meet budget, schedule, and quality objectives.
  • Conduct data analysis, system modeling, and hydraulic calculations to determine facility specifications.
  • Foster effective communication among project teams, clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, particularly at the staff level.
  • Assist in proposal preparation, including developing scopes of work and engineering fee estimates.
  • Provide mentorship and on-the-job training for project staff and entry-level engineers.

Qualifications

Qualifications may vary based on experience level:

  • Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in relevant states or EIT Certification or passing the FE exam.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to develop innovative solutions for technical challenges.
  • Active participation in professional associations and attendance at conferences.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and project teams.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

Education and Experience may vary based on experience level:

  • Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training: 0-4 years of experience in planning, design, and/or construction of water/wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineer: 4-8 years of experience.
  • Mid-level Engineer: 6-12 years of experience.
  • Senior Engineer: 12+ years of experience.
