POSITION SUMMARY:

Role: Elementary Guidance Counselor

Contract Type: 1.0 FTE, Ongoing

DESCRIPTION:
As an Elementary Guidance Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the emotional and academic development of students. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing counseling services tailored to the unique developmental needs of elementary school students.
  • Utilizing conflict resolution skills to manage and mediate disputes effectively within the student body.
  • Administering and interpreting academic and behavioral assessments to guide student placement and program development.
  • Maintaining a high level of accessibility for students, parents, and faculty to foster a supportive environment.
  • Conducting social skills workshops aimed at enhancing interpersonal relationships and coping mechanisms.
  • Identifying and supporting 'at-risk' students, ensuring inclusivity across diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Drafting comprehensive 504 plans to accommodate students' needs.
  • Supervising students throughout the school day as required.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the school.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:
  • A valid Washington State Education Staff Associate Certificate with a counseling endorsement.
  • Preferred bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience in elementary school counseling, both in group and individual settings.
  • A collaborative spirit and the ability to cultivate strong relationships with students and staff.
  • A commitment to the comprehensive guidance and counseling framework of the district.
  • Knowledge of Special Education laws and the integration of these needs within the academic framework.
  • Familiarity with computer scheduling systems, particularly the Skyward platform.
  • A proactive approach to personal mental health and well-being.
  • Experience in managing standardized testing and familiarity with school counseling practices.
  • Strong attendance and punctuality.
