Overview:

This role involves the preparation and provision of surgical instruments and equipment for designated surgical operations, adhering to the standards set by the hospital and department. The Surgical Technician is also tasked with fulfilling patient care requirements as delegated by an RN, Physician, or Director/Manager/Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibits proficiency in the relevant OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Establishes and upholds a sterile environment, passing instruments and sutures to the physician, and assisting as instructed.
  • Utilizes the physician preference card as a foundational guide when preparing cases and organizing the operating room.
  • Ensures that preference cards are consistently updated and as comprehensive as possible.
  • Collaborates effectively as part of the team responsible for patient care.
  • Participates in team planning and execution.
  • Maintains a secure environment by applying technical and aseptic practices at all times.
  • Demonstrates clinical proficiency in the use and maintenance of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Adheres to Universal Barrier Precautions for both patient and personal safety in all patient care scenarios.
  • Exhibits competence in monitoring and managing the surgical environment, ensuring proper traffic control, dress codes, and compliance with OR sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Familiarizes with facility policies and procedures regarding the decontamination, processing, and sterilization of all instruments and supplies handled within the facility.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform assigned patient care duties in a manner that addresses the specific population and developmental needs of patients served by the department.
  • Adapts patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to meet the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Preferred experience of 2 or more years.
  • BLS certification is required.
