Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisory Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the U.S. Pacific Fleet. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for providing technical oversight and guidance to subordinates, as well as conducting independent engineering studies and providing solutions for complex engineering problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exercise administrative and technical supervision over subordinates for mechanical engineering and technical work.
  • Provide technical oversight of engineering products and services for repair and maintenance of cognizant fluid/mechanical ship systems and components.
  • Plan overall work operations, set priorities, and establish objectives with subordinates and project teams.
  • Design, develop, initiate, monitor, assess and implement policies, programs, and controls to ensure efficient, consistent and effective operations.
  • Identify, monitor, assess, initiate and implement actions to ensure facilities, equipment and work environment are safe, secure and adequate.
  • Identify technical and leadership competencies and undertake assignments or initiate actions to mitigate gaps and improve proficiencies.
  • Ensure the workforce has the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies to meet performance expectations.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level.
  • Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics.
Qualifications
  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional Engineer leading teams and conducting independent engineering studies and providing solutions for unusual and unprecedented engineering problems, additionally possessing expertise in the area of submarine and surface ship fluid and mechanical ship systems and associated repair processes.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with shipyard processes and organization along with strong written and verbal communication skills in order to effectively communicate technical requirements with others in the engineering community, production shops, and ship's force.
Education
  • Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • Education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
